Wuhan Central Cultural Zone Chu River and Han Street

Wuhan Central Cultural Zone is advantageously situated in downtown between East Lake and Shahu Lake in Wuchang District, a geometric center in the city of Wuhan. As the Phase 1 Cultural Zone, Chu River and Han Street is an important part of Wuhan Central Cultural Zone, which Wanda Group invested RMB 50 billion in. Wanda Commercial Planning Institute led a group of domestic and foreign top designing companies in completing designs for the cultural zone. With the designing philosophy of “ No.1 in China, first-rate across the world and an industry-leading role model”, the Cultural Zone is poised to be a new cultural brand across the world.
Chu River and Han Street marks the launching project of Dadong River Ecological Water Network in Wuhan City and celebrates the Xinhai Revolution Centennial. Chu River and Han Street, with a total floor space of 210,000 square meters, was officially opened for business on Sep 30th, 2011. In addition to a stunning construction record in completing the Street, only 8 months, the construction quality and business influence is among the top in the country. The Street is not only highly praised by the government officials in Wuhan and even in Hubei Province, but also well-received by the public. It is a quite a sensation across the country. More than 2 million tourists visited the Street during the National Day, making this place the top 3 most-visited tourist attractions during the holiday.

Chu River and Han Street is more about business. It plays an important role of showcasing history and culture as well as ecological landscape of the city, bringing in clear social and economic benefits. Chu River runs across the Zone from east to west and represents the soul of the Zone. Chu River, 2.2 kilometers in length, connects East Lake and Shahu Lake. It is the first of several controlling projects of 6 lakes’ water network approved by State Council. Chu River is 40 to 70 meters wide and 150 meters in width including landscaping and road. The riverside road is lined with trees. With different sceneries every step forward, it is a wonderful recreational place for Wuhan citizens. Han Street is located along the south bank of Chu River. It stretches 1500 meters and covers 210,000 square meters. Han Street houses shopping malls, restaurants, cultural and recreational sites. Roughly 200 shops are located on this street. The street is lined with ROC-style architectures dotted with modern and European style architectures. It is a perfect harmony of tradition and modernity.
The impeccable combination of Chu River and Han Street is a reenactment of the famous painting Street Sights along the River during Qingming Festival.
